TAVARES — The Lake County Department of Community Services, Public Transportation Division, collected more than 4,200 pounds of food during its annual “Stuff the Bus” food drive on Nov. 21 at Wal-Mart stores in Leesburg and Mount Dora.

Volunteers line up for the ‘Stuff the Bus’ campaign at the Wal-Mart in Leesburg.
The nonperishable food collected during the Stuff the Bus campaign was donated to The Salvation Army, which distributed it throughout the Human Care Network, in partnership with United Way of Lake & Sumter Counties.
“The Leesburg Wal-Mart won again with 2,167 pounds and the Mount Dora store had 2,121 pounds,” said Ken Harley, Director of the Public Transportation Division. “For the past two years, the Leesburg store has won this event. Thanks to all those who helped to make this year’s event a great success.”
To pack as much nonperishable food as possible into the buses, volunteers and County employees volunteered their time at each location. At the Mount Dora location, 44 volunteers assisted and 25 volunteers helped at the Leesburg location.
In addition, Ben Griffin and Robert Lyles, hosts of the Micki Blackburn Hour on WLBE 790 AM, broadcasted live from the Leesburg location.
